Add Taxonomies
Use this step to add the appropriate Provider taxonomies. The System uses these codes to identify required information on the basic information page.
Based on the provider's NPI, the taxonomies will be pre-populated from the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES). You can delete or add additional taxonomies as needed.
Note: The Healthcare Provider Taxonomy Code Set is a system of codes that classifies healthcare providers by type, specialty, and area of expertise. The system uses these codes during the application process to collect all required information.
To add taxonomies:
- Select the Add Taxonomies hyperlink.
The System displays the Taxonomy List page.
- Select the Add button.
The System displays the Select Taxonomy Code Type/Specialty page.
- Select a Taxonomy Code Type. (Required)
The System enables the Specialty drop-down menu.
- Select a Specialty. (Required)
The System populates the Available Taxonomy Codes with available codes.
- Select the codes from the Available Taxonomy Codes field that you want to add and select the double right arrow to add them to the Associated Taxonomy Codes field.
Note: Hold the Ctrl button to select multiple codes at one time. You can also use the double left arrow to remove codes from the Available Taxonomy Codes and Associated Taxonomy Codes fields if necessary.
- Select the OK button.
The System saves the associated taxonomy and displays the Taxonomy List page.
To delete or reload taxonomies:
- Select the Add Taxonomies hyperlink.
The System displays the Taxonomy List page.
- Select the checkbox beside the taxonomy you want to delete and select Delete.
- If you accidentally deleted a prepopulated taxonomy, select Reload from NPPES.
